Club Notes - Oct 10, 2018

Thank you to Pat Pipa for running the meeting in my absence and to Bev Minnerly for doing the Tunic demo for me.  Your help made it easier for me to concentrate on my husband's care.  His surgery on Tuesday morning was successful and, after 2 nights in the hospital I was able to bring him home this afternoon.  He has some serious recovery time ahead over the next few weeks, but the overall outlook is good.

Notes from Pat:

"Meeting went well. We only had a few members attending because of the weather and they did not bring their machines. We had a drop in reporter from the Daily Sun. He watched the show and tell and then talked to Lu and left. Bev talked about the Boys Ranch luncheon and told some stories about some of the children at the ranch. Bev then did the demo.  Some of the ladies made patterns. Mic and I sorted out the pillow case cuff fabric into cuff fabric and fabric we thought might make backing for place mats. A few of the ladies want to know how to make the hot dog pillow case method. I asked Eileen if she would demo it for them.   Eileen also showed  a few of the ladies how to make fabric bowls."

Show and Tell:

Audrey Phillips was back with us and showed her lobster bib.

Pat Pipa made some pillow cases

Lu Karatzas showed some crocheted bags

Eileen D'Santo made some Halloween mug rugs

Bev Minnerly showed the tunic she made for this week's project.

Last week I told you that we didn't win the $100 gift certificate from The quilting Pallet because our donation of 52 pillowcases was eclipsed by a 300+ donation from a Leesburg group.  However, what I didn't realize was that the shop was giving out 2nd and 3rd place prizes.  We got $25 for 3rd place!  I made a quick run over there this afternoon to get our prize and immediately spent it on some solid blue and lavender fabric that we can hopefully match with some of the busy print pillowcase cuffs we've collected.  While there, Karen King offered us another bolt of fabric for our charity work!  Her generosity is amazing.  She told me that her shop turned over about 500 pillowcases to the Mile of Pillowcases event.

I sent out a note earlier asking which date would be better for our Halloween pot-luck.  it seems a number of you will be away 10/31, so we are sticking with 10/24 for the party.
