Club Notes - June 22, 2022

This afternoon we made 4^th of July placemats.  I brought enough fabric to make these so no one had to supply anything but backing. The pattern is attached to my email. Those who weren’t making placemats continued  toy project.

 

Show and Tell:

Ceal Pedersen showed a quilt 

 

and some stuffed cats she painted the faces on..

Bev Minnerly made a bunch of fabric baskets,

 and some cats.

Judy Mayer showed a cute zipper bag she made.

Liz Manzione made some zipper bags and finished an apron.

Deb Chapman made some bears and a 6-square purse.

Audrey Phillips finished a petal purse,

a six square bag,

 and a Bunco nametag.

Sue Campbell made a baby blanket 

and several pillowcases.

I fixed a preprinted stuffed cat 

and showed a “Santa’s Ride” embroidery I have been working on since January.

 

 

I don’t have a project scheduled for next week so I thought we could continue our patriotic efforts.  I will bring red, white and blue squares and scraps for anyone who would like to make patriotic quilts for any of the Hospice organizations we support.

We also have a box of walker bag kits in the closet if anyone would like to make some of these.

We also encourage anyone how wants to make stuffed toys.  Ceal said that, although she won’t bring her paints every week, if anyone brings stuffed toys she will take them home and paint eye.

If you want me to bring anything else, zipper bag fabric, or anything else, email me before next Wednesday.

Club Notes - June 15, 2022

 We had fun continuing our stuffed toy project.  I left with 3 large bags full of toys.  Ceal was busy all afternoon painting faces on them.  She said she will bring her paints again next week to paint any that are still being finished.

 

Show and Tell:

Pat Pipa brought 3 stuffed cats, 

a tote, and a zipper bag.

Deb Chapman made 3 teddy bears 

and finished her petal purse 

and her 6-square purse..

Charlotte Cecillio brought several finished stuffed toys.

Bev Minnerly made 2 fabric baskets, 

a cat, and a pillow for her daughter.

Audrey Phillips finished her petal purse.

Eileen DiSanto showed the “Tom” cat she made.

Donna Rissman showed an armful of toys she finished.

 

 

Next week I thought we would take a break from toys and do something for July 4^th.  I have 2 patterns that we can try.  One is a flag pillow and the other is a patriotic mat.  Either one can be made into place mats or pillows.   I will bring samples of both.  If you’d prefer to make more toys next week, we can always use them.  .I will bring the fabric and some stuffing for toys.  I will also send the supply list for the 2 patriotic projects in a separate email.

If you want me to bring anything else, such as cut squares, zipper bag fabric, or anything else, email me before next Wednesday.

Club Notes - June 8, 2022

This afternoon our project was to make stuffed toys.  These will mostly go to the Villages hospital Auxiliary.  They give them to distressed children coming into the hospital.   We had ladies cutting, sewing, stuffing, closing, and painting faces.   About 6-8 were finished and several more cut  fabrics were taken home to finish.

 

Today’s announcements:

-          I received an update  from Betty Richter,  her husband is doing better and is now breathing on his own.  She thanked us for the card.

-          I forgot to mention again that the memorial for Mary Kahlow’s husband Les will be at 11AM on Saturday at New Covenant Methodist Church. 

 

Show and Tell:

Pat Pipa showed a pillowcase and 4 finished  rope coasters.  She had been concerned that thewash away stabilizer seemed sticky after being washed off, but reported that they are fine now that they are dried.

Eileen DiSanto finished her folded 3 square purse from the demo a few weeks ago.

New Member Marianne Davis showed a toy giraffe she made.   She will bring the pattern next week.

Donna Rissman showed the Folded Petal purses she finished..

Carolyn Grasso showed a quilt top she finished

Bev Minnerly showed 2 stuffed cats.

Deb Chapman showed the latest row she finished .in her row by row quilt challenge.

I finished 2 Folded Petal purses and a tissue box cover.

Donna Rissman completed the binding on 4 quilts I gave her last week, but I forgot to show them.  Mic helped me get photos of them at the end of the afternoon.  

There were 2 that Ellen Hein handed in

 and one that I made. 

 The 4^th one was a row by row that was given to me by someone in our club a few years ago.  I am sorry, but I don’t remember who, so if you recognize it, let me know.  I had put it aside because it is a large quilt with lots of special items sewn on, and I wanted to find the right place to send it.  Now I think it might be one I can give to Ashley’s House next year, so I pulled it out and had it finished.

 

Everyone had so much fun this afternoon that I received a request to continue this project next week.  So, if you don’t have time to work on any of the stuffed toys this week, no worries.  We will continue sewing these next week. I will bring the fiber fill and fabric scraps again.

Club Notes - June 1, 2022

 It was another fun afternoon.  Audrey Phillips and her daughter Lynn Delgado.brought a guest – Lynn’s granddaughter Aubrey. We always enjoy seeing the next generation interested in crafts, especially sewing.

 

Today’s announcements:

-          A reminder that the Honor Flight with an all female veteran group will  return  tonight.  I understand there will be entertainment starting at 9PM and the bus bringing them home should arrive about 11PM.  If you can go welcome them home, go to the American Legion building at the corner of Rolling Acres Rd and Rt 466.  We recommend you bring a lawn chair and bug spray.

-          I received an email from one of our recent new members – Betty Richter,  Her husband had a heart attack on Monday and he is in critical condition.  I circulated a card for them at the meeting.

This week I brought red, white and blue fabric so anyone who wants to can make patriotic quilts.  As I mentioned last week, there are 3 places I send these

-          Honor Flight quilts should be 40” x 60: and be red, white and blue.  Use of panels, especially ones with specific service branches are welcome.

-          Cornerstone Hospice quilts need to be 36-40 inches square and need to have the special cornerstone block in the center. I have these center blocks with me every week.

-          Compassionate Care Hospice has no size requirements, they only want the quilts to be red, white and blue.  The recipients are mostly in nursing homes or receiving hospice care at home.

Show and Tell:

Mic Pickard made a 3-block purse from our demo a few weeks ago.

Ceal Pedersen turned in a patriotic quilt for Honor Flight 

and showed a quilt top she is going to finish for Cornerstone Hospice.

Pat Pipa showed a small rope bowl

 and a quilt as you go quilt.

Jean Peters made several clothing protectors

 and 2 walker bags.

Audrey Phillips made an apron for her husband and covered it with vinyl for easy cleaning.

Audrey’s great-granddaughter showed the stuffed cat Audrey made for her, autographed by her most recent classmates.  (She is a military kid and will be moving to a new school in the fall.)  

She also showed a bear her grandmother Lynn made for her, 

a purse, 

and an apron originally made for her mother.

This week I made 3 rope bowls using macramé yarn and 2 Christmas coasters.

I also made 3 of the 3-block purses.  I used 8.5 inch squares instead of the 10 inch, so these are a little smaller..

B.J. Herter showed a small zip-lock tote made with a potholder base.

Donna Rissman presented today’s demo of a folded Petal Purse. 

 The key to this project is making the pattern template.  After that, the tote goes together quickly.  (I finished mine before the end of the meeting.)  The instructions are attached to this week's email.  Here are some photos I took during the demo:

 It has been a while since we made toys for the hospital, so next week I will bring our stuffed toy patterns and we will have a toy making afternoon.  This is a good assembly line project. Those who don’t bring sewing machines can cut out the fabric and hand the pieces to the sewers.  Other non-sewers can stuff the toys once they are sewn.  Hope to see you next week.
