Club Notes - June 12, 2024

We had a lot of fun at our party this afternoon.  The food was good and plentiful. The rec center staff, Louis and Eric joined us for trivia.  Today’s trivia was all about the founding of our country.  Eric thought he would win since he was a history major, but Bev Minnerly got more right answers than anyone.  As usual, we played several games of bingo after show and tell and had lots of laughs in the process.

Show and Tell:

Louise Stem was busy .  She made 3 pillowcases

and 3 microwave bowl sets.

She also showed a snap bag she made for Operation Shoebox.  We haven’t demoed this method in quite a while, so I will schedule this demo as soon as I can.

Bev Minnerly was also busy.  She handed in a dog bed, a drawstring backpack,

and 7 walker bags.

Deb Chapman showed 4 place mats she made as part of a Quilting Bees challenge.

Last week I challenged anyone who was there to make 9-patch blocks from 4.5” squares and Deb handed in 3 of them.

She also showed a block she made as a block of the month project.

Finally , she showed a quilt top she made from her scraps.

Laura Tomich was able to join us again.  She has been dealing with several health issues that have kept her from meetings for the past few years, but she has continued sewing items for us during that time.  Today she brought back a tote that she made from fabric she picked up at one of our meetings a few years ago.

She showed some extra blocks that will go back into our “big block box”.

Then, she showed a sample of the cup cozies she made for her daughter and her hospital coworkers.

Ellen brought back 2 flannel baby quilts that she finished

and 1 new one that she gave me to quilt.  She made all 3 of these quilt tops.

She also turned in a stack of receiving blankets and burp pads for Leesburg Hospital.

Next week I will bring the 4.5” squares back in the hope of getting some more 9-patch blocks.  I also have fabric that we pulled out of storage last week.  I am hoping some of this will be used to make some items we can sell in October for the charity fund.

Ceil Pedersen has asked me to add a note on her behalf.  She has a lot going on at the moment and could use some help.  If anyone can spare an hour or two occasionally,  to sit with her husband so she can do food shopping, she would greatly appreciate it. Her husband has dementia and cannot be left alone.

Hope to see you next week.
