Club Notes - April 3, 2024

Despite the ominous forecast, there were 10 of us at El Santiago this afternoon.  The weather gods were kind, not starting the downpour until we were all inside, and finishing before it was time to pack up and go home.

Last week, Brenda Severa took one our walker bags to Freedom point for her friend Betty Richter.  The other residents and staff liked it and asked if they can get more.  We decided to use some of our abundance of fabric to make a bunch of these next week.  Bev and Brenda started by cutting up some fabric into the start of walker bag kits.  Mic and I will go to storage and pull more fabric so we can make a bunch of these.  Next week we will concentrate on this.

I have been thinking about the October craft sale.  For the last sale we had a lot of different items for sale and it got a bit unmanageable.  Plus we still have items that did not sell.  I suggested that we limit the items we make for sale to a few items with the same patterns.  Here are my suggestions:

Microwave bowl sets of 3 sizes.  I will purchase the Wrap N zap from our charity fund.

Potholders:  We will only make them using one of the following patterns: Butterfly, Leaf, Pumkin, or Double Pocket.  I will purchase the Insulbrite and we can use batting leftover from quilts.

Purses:  The Lazy Girl purse pattern, expanded to 10” wide has been popular, with the right fabrics.

Table runners:  Shoppers were looking for these, both seasonal and non-seasonal.  Any pattern is OK.

I would like to try this limited list this year to see if  we do better.  If anyone has any suggestions for items that can be sold for $1, let me know.

Show and Tell

Mic Pickard took a panel from our big block box and made a floor mat.

She also showed a duck she made.

Ellen Hein took a small quilt I gave her and made it into a tote bag.

She also sewed with her granddaughter and made some scrungies.

Louise Stem came with 18 nine-patch squares.

Audrey Philips made a walker bag.

Ceal Pedersen took home all the stuffed toys that were made last week and painted the faces on them.

This resulted in 2 big bags full.

I showed a table runner I made

and a baby quilt top using a 3 yard bundle that was donated.

Everyone was busy selecting fabric from the bins Mic brought, cutting walker bag kits, and stuffing some more toys.   We put quilts and pillow cases into the duffle bags for the Sheriffs Youth Ranch graduates and made a plan for adding the zipper bags.  Lynn Delgado will bring the duffles to the Friends of the Youth Ranches Social next Wednesday.

Here’s hoping the weather will be better next week and we will see you then.
