Club Notes - April 24, 2024

There were 14 of us today, including one new member.  Thanks to Ellen Hein for working with our new lady to get her started sewing on her new machine.

I started by talking about the requests from Freedom Pointe and the UF Leesburg Maternity unit.  I thought we had some nice flannel for the receiving blankets, but when I unrolled the bundles we realized that they were just a soft cotton.  These will be available for making the Tummy Time quilts instead.  I asked the group if there would be any objections to my using some of our charity funds to buy some flannel for these and none of the ladies present objected.  I will make a trip to Hobby Lobby  because it looks like they have the best price for this.

Show and Tell:

B.J. Herter brought 3 dinos and 2 walker bags.

Deb Chapman showed a quilt top she made using some of our “Big Blocks”.

Ceal Pedersen brought the stuffed animals that she painted the faces on.

Louise Stem turned in 4 pillowcases and showed a table cover she made.

Carolyn Grasso made a dog bed, a Teddy Bear, and a rocket toy.

Pat Pipa made 2 fidget walker bags.

Jean Peters made 6 catheter bags.

I showed 4 purses I made for our October sale.

We received several bags of fabric scraps from Allamanda on Tuesday, so several ladies spent the afternoon sorting through them.  We filled a couple of dog beds and picked out a few usable pieces.  There were a couple of 1 yard flannel pieces in the fabric bin and I cut them into reasonable size (35” x 36”) for receiving blankets, with the leftover 8” x 36” pieces perfect for matching burp pads.  Ellen trimmed the corners to curves and roll-serged them.  We will pull some small quilts out of storage and be able to give our first donation to Leesburg Hospital next week.

I brought a box of fat quarters this week and saw several ladies select some of these. I also saw some big blocks go.  It will be fun to see what comes back.
