Club Notes - March 27, 2024

It was great to be back with my sewing friends this afternoon.  I was starting to loose track of what day it was, without places to go.  I am happy to be able to drive again so I can get to all my weekly activities.

We had 15 ladies at this afternoon’s meeting.  There were lots of stuffed toys being made. Courtesy of Mic, we had 2 bins of fabric to choose from. Plus, a lady dropped off a bag of heavier fabric that we can use for walker bags or dog beds.

Please send prayers for Diane Placek and her family.   Her son has been in the hospital for the past 5 weeks and is in kidney failure. He is in the process of being moved to a long term care facility.

Show and Tell:

B.J. Herter showed a duck toy.

Carolyn Grasso made some 9-patch blocks

and some stuffed animals waiting for stuffing.

Pat Pipa made a bunch of toys

and showed a yard flag she made.

Bev Minnerly made 3 walker bags

 and 2 cats.

Ceal Pedersen  brought back a bag full of stuffed animals that she painted the faces on.

Audrey Phillips showed a little bear,

a yard flag, and a lot of Easter items.

At the Busy Hands/Happy Hearts sale a few weeks ago, Mic put out all the items left over from our sales last October.  They sold $140 worth of items.  That has been added to our charity fund.  Mic said that items under $5 went best.  We should think about what we can make that we could sell at next October’s craft sale, for no more than $10.

Please continue working on toys, 9-patch blocks, and anything else that will make good use of all the lovely fabric that has been donated to us.   If you need anything specific, let me know.

See you next week.

Club Notes - March 20, 2024

Hi everybody.  I hope you all had fun this week.  Thanks again to Mic for running the show.  I am optimistic that I will be able to join you again next Wednesday.  I am seeing improvements and hope it will even better once I get the staples out of my back on Monday.

Here are the notes from Mic:

“We had 12 members there and a visitor, Sydna Eastman.  I’m pretty sure she’ll be back next week as she brought her machine & made an animal to take home and finish!!

Both Mary Ellen and I blended the big blocks we took home last week into projects.  See pics.  I hope more will come back in future weeks.

Most everyone grabbed fabric & jumped into cutting out animals.  Several were put together & sent home with Ceal for faces.”

Show and Tell:

Carolyn Grasso showed some 9-patch blocks she made

and the quilt for her son that she finished.

Nilda Nicoletta also made some 9-patch blocks

and showed a block project she has started.

Bev Minnerly made 2 walker bags.

Pat Pipa made 2 9-patch blocks

and a couple of bunny treat bags.

Mary Ellen Boutin showed a back pack she made.

Mic made a tote bag

and a purse.

Audrey Phillips showed a quilt with embroidered butterflies.

Next week I plan to continue the toy making effort.  Looking forward to seeing you all.

Club Notes - March 13, 2024

Thanks to Mic for stepping in yesterday to run the meeting.  Although I am doing OK, the pain meds I am on prevent me from driving.   It’s a good thing too, since I find myself nodding off during the day.  They say sleep is the best healer.  Needless to say, I am not doing any sewing this week.

Here are the notes Mic sent:

“You were missed‼️‼️‼️But, good news:  Audrey brought the 2 green pillowcases today so you can scratch that off your list👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. We took on the big block box from the closet in conjunction with the squares & other ideas each person had so that box now looks like the pic above🤗🤗🤗🤗. I’ll send the sheets & show & tell pics tomorrow when I have a fresh brain for computer work🥰🥰🥰. Everyone sends their best including Lois.”

I think this means the Big Block Box is now a Big Block Bag!   That means more room in the closet to store soothing else.  Maybe toy fabric?

Show and Tell

Deb Chapman showed a St Patrick’s table runner top from the pattern I showed last week, and the fabric she plans to use for the backing.

Nilda Nicoletta joined in right away by making some 9-patch blocks.

Carolyn Grasso showed a horse quilt top sheis working on.

Bev Minnerly made a walker bag.

Mary Ellen Boutin made some 9-patch blocks and a quilt top.

Audrey Phillips made a quilt,

 a panel,

and a Bunco badge.

Lynn Delgado made a duffle bag.

(With the 2 Ellen made, we now have enough for this year's graduates.)

Ellen showed a quilt she made and now finished with binding,

and a quilt Deb Chapman turned in that Ellen finished the binding on.

Mic sent a photo of a bag full of felt hearts, but it wasn't part of show and tell, so I asked.  Jean Peters hand stitched and stuffed them all!! I will have to cut a bunch more.

I think next week is planned to be toy making day.  I will let you know if I hear otherwise.

Mic will run the meeting again.  I get my staples out on the 26th, so I hope to be back with you on the 27th.

Club Notes - March 6, 2024

A great group of 16 ladies, including one new member, participated in this afternoon’s activities.  I was going to run the 50-50 drawing, but things got very hectic as part 2 of our huge fabric donation arrived just about 1PM.   This was as large as last week’s and contained mostly solid color fabrics.  Anne Knoff did a great job transferring the yardage from the paper shopping bags into boxes and sturdier bags I brought,  A few ladies took some of the fabric for charity projects.  Mic and I put most of it into storage.  We will bring it out, a little at a time, starting in the spring.

Show and Tell:

Carolyn Grasso contributed several 9-patch blocks.

Mary Ellen made some 9-patch blocks and some dryer sheet blocks.

Pat Pipa made 3 pillow cases.

Diane Placek showed a quilt she made for a student taking lessons at her church.

Ellen Hein made a zipper bag to match one of the duffle bags she is making for the Youth Ranch graduates.

She also showed the quilts that she completed the binding on this week.

These 2 quilts with sports fabric were turned in by Anne Knoff.

Ellen made these 2 fleece blankets.

I made this Egyptian themed quilt.

This is the red 9-patch quilt that so many ladies contributed to.  I sewed it together with the white  sashings and quilted it.  Ellen added the binding.

Front with pockets

I showed an “Alice in Wonderland" fabric duffle bag I made,  This was fabric I found in the shop in Deland during last year’s All Florida Shop Hop.

The pattern was above my comfort level, which is why it took me a year to get the courage to work on it, but I am very proud of the result.

Back with pocket and Trolley strap

During the afternoon we had 2 more show and tells.

First, Lynn Delgado made one of the duffle bags that we are giving to the Sheriffs' Youth Ranch grads.

A little later I caught Candy Dodge with a turtle zipper bag she made. So cute!

Today I showed how 3 heart shaped pieces of fabric can be turned into a 3-leaf clover to make a St Patrick’s Day item.  You can make a table runner, a hot pad, a mug rug, or anything else you want with this simple applique design.  Several ladies asked for the pattern that I sent out the picture from, so I will send that out in a separate email.

After the meeting I gave Mic several bags of items to be donated to the Christian Care Center in
Leesburg, some dog beds, and some larger quilts to go to the Shepherd’s Lighthouse.   I brought pillowcases for Case for Smiles and Walker Bags for Helpertunity to the Sewing Studio last week.

Next week Mic will be running the meeting, and the project will be stuffed toys.  There are many patterns for these in a box in the closet.  You can also continue to make 9-patch and dryer sheet blocks, if that is what you enjoy.   For those who like hand sewing, there are always pocket hearts to sew.   As I mentioned in a prior email, my back surgery is on Friday, so I will be unable to attend meetings for a few weeks.  Several ladies have requested updates so I will send an email over the weekend.

Enjoy your week and come out to give Mic your support next week.
