Club Notes - October 30, 2019

We had a nice turnout for our Halloween party this afternoon. We welcomed back several snowbirds and gained a new member. There was lots of great food, items to show, and fun games.  We didn't have many costumes, so no vote taken.  I came as a modern witch, maybe someone from Harry Potter.

Show and Tell:

Anne Knoff showed a Christmas pillow she embroidered. She watched a YouTube to learn how to make the ruffled cuff.

Judy Mayer has kept very busy while she was up north for the summer. She came back with 20 fidget walker bags!!

Carol Lamb came with several pillowcases.

Pat Pipa showed her Christmas Tree wall hanging.  She also made 2 fidget walker bags and a zipper bag.

Deb Chapman made a scrap bunny and a dinosaur.  She also made a set of 4 matching red, white and blue dryer sheet blocks.

Mic Pickard made 2 dinosaurs and a purse with removable insert.

Diane Placek made a walker bag.

Eileen DiSanto  finished a stuffed frog.

New member Kiki Mitracos showed an apron with pockets for pens, paper, phone or other items you may need. She also made a tote and 2  bags perfect for carrying just a phone, a little money and your id. (All of these will go to the Ocala Shelter).

Audrey Phillips showed several decorative towel toppers.

Lynn Delgado showed 2 of the vests she made for family members when they go somewhere there is a crowd.  These make it easy to find each other.

Carol Riggs showed a round placemat she made.

I made a walker bag and tried out embroidered animal faces on several stuffed animals.

I also showed a quilt I put together from our stash of 3.5 inch blocks.

After lunch I handed out a new Halloween trivia quiz with 30 multiple choice questions.  Diane Placek won first prize with 25 right.  Alice Meunier got second with 23.  We finished with several games of Halloween bingo.

Thanks to everyone who helped clean up after the party.  We have a reputation for leaving the room the way we found it and I very much appreciate the help.

Next week B.J. Herter will show us how to make a fabric collage using a pattern of your choice.  I sent out several ideas a few weeks ago, but any drawing you like from a coloring book will work fine.

I will send a separate email with a supply list.

Hope to see you all next week.

Club Notes - Oct 23, 2019

We had a fun afternoon. Today's demo was a review on how to make a fidget walker bag. I saw a number of them being cut out and hope to see some finished ones next week.  If anyone still needs the pattern, let me know and I will send it to you.

Several members were also making some more stuffed toys for the hospital auxiliary.  When I got home tonight I inventoried the toys that have been turned in over the past few weeks. I filled a large bag to overflowing and I'm hoping to deliver the current batch tomorrow.
There are:
5 bears
8 frogs
14 scrap bunnies
20 dinosaurs
2 other style rabbits

Show and Tell:

Pat Pipa came with a bunch of stuffed animals.

Anne Knoff brought some stuffed dinos

and 2 candy bag purses.  She and Marti found a YouTube on how to make a lined zipper bag and enhanced the candy bag project with this info.  The link to the youtube is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1AsfZRYlRM.

She also showed a little snap-bag change purse. Instead of the metal ruler sections we have been using, she found  something called “flex frames” on Amazon.

Donna Rissman showed a Christmas Tree wall hanging collage.

I finished a quilt Carol Thurston made

and made 2 zipper bags from a practice quilted piece we found in the donation pile.

I also made 9 dinosaurs and 6 scrap bunnies that I forgot to bring.  I’ve included photos of them in the blog so I can include them in this week’s donation.

Next week is our Halloween pot-luck lunch.  Costumes encouraged,  but are optional.  We’ll vote on the best one.   As always, I will supply plates, plastic ware, etc and ice tea.  Bring a dish to share if you can, but come anyway if you can’t. There is always lots of food to go around. Also, please bring 25 pennies or buttons for bingo. We will have lunch, then show and tell as usual, followed by bingo.   Come out and have food and fun.

Hope to see you next week.

Club Notes - Oct. 16, 2019

We had a lot of fun making stuffed toys this afternoon.  Thanks to Ellen Hein for enlarging the scrap bunny pattern and finding ways to improve the instructions, and thanks to Diane Placek for enlarging and improving the dinosaur pattern.  There were 7 scrap rabbits and 2 dino's turned in by the end of the afternoon, in addition to some frogs Mic made over the past week.  Several ladies took fabric home to make more so I expect to see a bunch come back next week. I'm attaching the templates for the 2 toys to my email.

Last Friday and Saturday Ray and I delivered all the dog beds that have accumulated at our house.  There were a total of 48, so we split the bounty and gave half to Marion County Animal Services and the other half to the Humane Society of Lake County.

Last year Sewing 'N More participated in the first showcase of charitable groups in The Villages.  Ellen Hein told us she had a conversation with the woman arranging the event for 2020 and she will let us know the details.

Show and Tell:

Ellen Hein finished her Candy Corn table topper.

Lu Karatzas showed a pillowcase she made for her brother from an Aborigine design t-shirt. She used the leftover fabric to make a small cloth pouch for him.

B.J. Herter showed several candy zipper bags she completed.

Pat made some more zipper bags for the Youth Ranch kids.

Anne Knoff showed a dress she started a while back and has finally finished.

I showed a quilt that Eillen Navikas gave me to finish.

I enhanced the stuffed bunny pattern we have been trying to use by making it larger and lengthening the ears, and showed the result.

I also finished 2 more draw-string backpacks.

Lastly, I showed a tile scene embroidery project of "The Last Supper" that I have been working on since last February and finally completed.

*************************

On Nov 6th, B.J. will be showing us how to make a fabric collage.

If you wish to try this, save up some small fabric scraps.  You can choose a picture from a coloring book, if you'd like.  I have a bunch of simple line drawing that you can choose from as well.  I scanned them to 2 pdf files.  The files are large, so I will send them in 2 emails.  If you find a design you like you can print it and bring it on Nov 6th when B.J. does the demo.

The week in between is Oct 30th and we will be having our Halloween pot-luck.  Costumes optional but encouraged.  :-))

See you next week.

Club Notes - Oct 9, 2019

It was another busy afternoon at El Santiago. We welcomed back another of our snowbirds, Brenda Severa. I did a quick explanation of how to make a loyalty card holder.  The basic instructions are attached to my email.  I gave those in attendance a couple of ideas on variations.

a tag blanket

and a lamb book for her new grandchild

and a towel apron for the parents to use when bathing the baby.

After today's demo everyone got busy as always and had lots of fun.

See you next week.
