Club Notes - August 29, 2018

Although I was away last week, Pat Pipa led the meeting and sent me the following notes:

******************************************
We had a very nice meeting today with 17 girls attending.  Eileen Navikas returned to our meetings.
She hasn’t been coming because her husband passed away.  She brought some dog bed sleeves.

Show and tell:

Diana Gosselin—pillow cases

Lynn Kluczynski –two mondo bags and retreat quilt,

Ellen Hein—quilt for charity—which she will bring back when she comes to the next meeting,

Alice Meunier--quilt, pencil cases, pillowcases, table runner,

Bev Minnerly—pillowcases,

Carol Riggs—craft folder

Charlotte Cecilio—Mug Rug,

Linda Parr—jewelry holder.

Carol Riggs invited Doug Stone from the Patriot Guard Ride who spoke to us about the patches and what his group does.   A few girls signed up to get his emails.  He wants sewer to go down to Orlando Disney to help with the sewing on of these patches on to leather vests.  They will have sewing machines there to sew on the patches.   Each child will be able to get patches for the event and for the branch of service their parent was in.   This event is held in different parts of the country each year.   It is sponsored by American Airlines and several other organizations.   They kids will get three days at Disney and other events.   It is being held the being of December.

After that I show how to make a place mat with strips, which I brought all the supplies for.  Several of the members took the supplies and are going to try and make the place mats.

Ellen worked with her serger the whole meeting doing the patches and was not able to finish.  She and Nita were the only one there with sergers.   Nita’s serger was working.   Several of the members helped Elllen cut the patches apart and trim them.   The finished ones Carol took and Ellen is going to finish the others at home.

*******************************
Next week we will look at how to make place mats using border fabrics.  I will send out more info in a couple of days when I catch up after being away for a week.
