Club Notes - June 18, 2025

This afternoon’s meeting started a little different.  I walked in to find a .Villages TV video guy waiting.  His reporter coworker arrived a few minutes later.  They interviewed me first then proceeded to talk to and film several other ladies.  This is supposed to be on the Villages TV channel, but I don’t know when.

It’s good that they came today and not one of the previous weeks. There were 13 of us today and lots of activity..  I brought the 5” squares that have been living in my car plus some fabric that came in yesterday.

Show and Tell:

Carolyn Grasso was back and showed a flat bear waiting to be stuffed..

Mic Pickard made several draw-string backpacks.

Pat Pipa came with a few zipper bags.

Diane Sacula showed the latest batch of toys she made, along with her friend who embroiders the faces.

Ellen Hein showed several quilt tops she made.

She also showed a large tote she was finishing.  She has made a number of these for us to carry quilts back and forth.

Louise Stem finished 2 pillowcases.

Eileen DiSanto made a flat giraffe and a flat scardy cat.

Mic showed everyone a photo of how our items for the fall sale are now stored neatly in her garage.  She brought back the “shoe” bags so I can donate them to the Sheriff’s Youth Ranch.  I brought her a carload of dog beds, toys, and items to go to the Leesburg Maternity ward.  She is going to make deliveries over the next few days.  I also have several bags of items to go to the Christian Care Center in Leesburg, but will bring them for her to deliver next week.

Last weekend I cut batting for 17 baby quilts that were waiting on my to-do pile.  I will be quilting these and giving them to Ellen for binding , as soon as I can.  I gave her 4 this week.

I don’t have anything else to report.  Hope to see you next week.

Club Notes - June 11, 2025

For the 2nd week, I made it home in time before the thunderstorms.  I hope you all did too.  This will be the norm for the next few months.

There were 10 of us this afternoon.  Today’s meeting was a little different  After show and tell, we reviewed all the items left over from previous craft sales.  We gathered around a couple of tables while Mic brought a box at a time for us to review.  Some items were designated to go to one of our charities, but we will try to sell most of it again. We reorganized the items, choosing the best of each category to put out first and the rest to hold in reserve under the table.  For most of the items, we reduced the prices as well.

We also decided that we would not make any more items, unless we had something unique to offer.  I am going to put out the aprons I have been making, and will accept anything else that you wish to contribute, however no one is obligated to make anything.

Show and Tell:

Ceal Pedersen showed some toys she painted the faces on,

and 2 quilts that she made.

The back is a pre-printed pattern, not pieced.

Louise Stem finished 6 pillowcases and cut fabric for some more for Laura Tomich to finish at home.

Mic Pickard showed the t-shirt she embroidered (and was wearing.

Diane Sacula showed the latest batch of toys she made, along with her friend who embroiders the faces.

Ellen Hein made a bunch of quilt tops, mostly starting with fabric from our big block box.

I made 2 more aprons from panels, an owl one

and a more masculine deer one.

I also showed a quilt I made as a gift for one of my great nephews, who is getting married in September.

At the end of the meeting, new member Roxann Walas showed me the backpack sides she made, and I convinced her to let me take a picture.

Next week we will be back to normal sewing fun.  Hope to see you then.

Club Notes - June 4, 2025

There were 8 of us this afternoon.  I brought all the 5” squares instead of just the blue and red ones.  I am hoping you will turn these into backpacks, quilt tops, zipper bags, or anything else you can think of.

Show and Tell:

Mic Pickard showed the backpack she made.

Ceal Pedersen took a quilt from Moyer Citrus last week and copied the pattern for a quilt she completed this week.

She also showed some toys she painted the faces on.

Donna Rissman found a great toy panel at the Joanne’s closing sale.  Cutting the parts and making the animals (with no instructions) became a group project this afternoon.  There was lots of laughter as these animals were created.  Ceal took them home to close their bottoms, so we should see them next week.

She also brought several quilts from Moyer Citrus Quilters.

Ellen Hein finished a quilt top from a panel

SHe also made some backpack sides,

pillowcases,

and completed the binding on a bunch of quilts.

Diane Sacula showed the latest batch of toys she made, along with her friend who embroiders the faces.

I showed an apron I made from a Christmas panel.

Thanks to Eileen and Ellen for ironing a couple of large fabrics that I hope to use as backings for some of the quilt tops that have been handed in.  I still have a large stack to sandwich and quilt.

I hope to see you all next week.
