There were 11 of us at today’s meeting. The main task today was to review all the quilts we have ready to be donated and decide which ones go where We separated them into 3 piles – large quilts to be considered for the Sheriffs Youth Ranch graduates, small quilts for the Advent Waterman’s hospital maternity and pediatrics wards, and the rest to go to the Christian Care Center in Leesburg or Project S.O.S.
After the quilts were separated, we looked at the large ones
and selected 7 for the girl grads and 10 for the boys. That is one extra for
each, just in case they throw us a curve ball and tell me there will be another
graduate. This has happened before, so I
want to be prepared.
I took photos of all the quilts. There were so many, I will post them in a
separate blog entry.
I also brought some more fabric to add to the bin for making toys, along with some more orphan blocks for the big block box, more 3.5”, 8.5”, and 10.5” squares, and several UFO quilts. I was happy to see some of this go home with someone.
Show and Tell:
Last week, Lorraine Manz took one of the UFO quilt bags home. There were 36 star blocks in it, enough to make a king size quilt. Instead, she made 2 more manageable quilt tops. She is going to work on making another quilt top starting with the remaining 4 blocks.
Lorraine also made several pillowcases.
Ceal Pedersen brought in a baby quilt
and the latest batch of stuffed toys. This should bring the total number of toys above the 40 we promised to the group going to Liberia.
Eileen DiSanto made 2 more toys, a pig and an elephant.
Carolyn Grasso found some printed toys and is going to make them.
Louise Stem made 2 pillowcases.
Lynne Delgado came a little late, but she brought 4 more duffle bags for the graduates. They only need to go to Ellen for the final hardware.
Next week we plan to make Christmas gift bags. I will bring in the Christmas fabric we have,
as well as some patriotic fabric for anyone interested in making some
cornerstone veterans hospice quilts.
I hope to see you then.
Lois
