We had a nice turnout for today's meeting. 9 members came out for the afternoon (including 2 new members) and 4 others popped in to say hi, drop off fabric or completed projects.
We finally had enough people for me to give Bev Minnerly her gift for being the one who attended the most meetings in 2020. I gave her an embroidered potholder. (Yes, it is functional, not just decorative/). Bev told us that she is going to have a heart stint put in sometime within the next few weeks. She is waiting for a call to tell her when to go to the hospital, and has agreed to drop me a note when she gets the call. All your prayers are appreciated.
I also reported our charity results for 2020. The specific numbers for each charity are at the end of this email, but the total value of all our donations last year was estimated to be $20,620.22. It's less than 2019, but still pretty good for the type of year we just got through.
Show and Tell
Ceal Pederson made several zipper bags. Last week she took a bunch of ties home and is making quilt blocks. She took more home this afternoon.
Deb Chapman showed a lovely quilt. She said her Mom started it,
making most of the 9-patch blocks. She added some blocks and finished
it, so it will have a place on her bed.
She also showed the block of the month she made for her quilt chapter and a tote bag from ties she took home last week.
Brenda Severa embroidered some placemats and completed a
kit for a baby quilt that has been in her stash for a long time. The
quilt will go to one of her grandchildren.
Bev Minerly
showed a great sew-together bag, with multiple compartments within one bag.
Ellen Hein has started making the duffle bags for the 2021 high school graduates of the Sheriff's youth Ranch.
I showed 3 draw-string backpacks that I made.
The
last one was made from a table runner we received. It had a rounded
edge, so that became a flap over the top..
Ellen also brought in 7 finished quilts from our assembly line process.
These first 4 were designed in our club meetings by several ladies working together.
I designed these 3. The first was put together with large blocks found in the donation piles, combined with 8" squares
The next one was made by combining blocks from 3 different panels found in the donations, along with 2 large blocks and some sashing.
The Slanted Half-Hexi quilt was made from other donated fabric, cut with a half-hexi die instead of the squares I usually cut.
I'm describing these to show you that, with a little imagination, you can make interesting patterns out of the scraps and leftovers we get.

Several of the ladies took advantage of the supplies I brought in today. Brenda took home some of the 5" squares for a project she is working on. Deb, Ceal and Mary Ellen layed out the design for a blue quilt top and Brenda took the squares home to sew together. Several ladies took home ties to make tote bags and pillowcase kits to sew together. I sewed a stack of half-square triangles for a quilt pattern I am planning.
As always, we got a bunch of fabric donations today. Some of the ladies went through and filled half a doggie bed while separating some good stuff. After dinner tonight I went through another bag of "scrap", pulled out a small pile of usable pieces and filled the rest of the dog bed. I will close it and add it to the pile tomorrow.
One last thought - I can report the results of the survey I sent a few days ago. Of the 60 club members I have on my list, I received 20 responses. 8 of our members have already received the first shot of the vaccine and are waiting for the 2nd. 11 members are on waiting lists and 1 is waiting for the one-shot vaccine that is supposed to be coming. I'm assuming the rest have not attempted to get the vaccine yet.
