Club Notes - September 11, 2024

 There were 13 of us at El Santiago this afternoon.  We received another bin of fabric yesterday, so everyone had a chance to look through to see if they can use any of it.  I pulled some pre-cut squares to add to the appropriate boxes.

I brought orange, purple and black 5” squares in case anyone wanted to make something Halloween themed.  I also put out the dryer sheets and fabric strips for anyone interested in making some of these.

Show and Tell:

Bev Minnerly made some doll bodies for another club.

Pat Pipa made 4 dryer sheet blocks and sewed them together in an X set.

Louise Stem showed 2 pillowcases she made.  

She also showed a reusable menstrual pad kit she made for Operation Christmas Child.

Ellen made another 25 infant hats from knit fabric.  

She also showed several quilts that she added the binding to.

For those of you who handed in 9-patch blocks using 3.5" squares, this is one of the results.

The next one is made with 4.5" squares.

I don't remember who made this quilt top.

Diane Saculla turned in a twin size quilt for the Sheriff’s Youth Ranch graduates.

Anne Knoff handed in a bunch of cute cup cozies for our sale.

 

For the rest of the afternoon ladies stuffed toys, selected fabric, and sewed.  I laid out the snow-ball blocks that have been turned in, to ultimately make a quilt.  It may take a while, but I will get it done eventually.

I promise to bring more stuffing next week.  Other than that, I haven’t decided on a plan for next week yet.  I will let you know.

 

Club Notes - September 4, 2024

 We had 13 ladies come out today, plus one regular guest. I brought a large bin of recently donated fabric for everyone to sort through.  The main project of the day was to inventory and price the items we have for the October sale.     

Show and Tell:

Suzette Katrishen stuffed a bunch of stuffed toys and turned them over to Ceal for face painting.

Mic Pickard showed the first set of pajamas she made for this year’s Christmas gifts.

Ellen Hein is using up her knit fabric and turned in 25 knit infant hats.

 During the meeting she also finished a quilt.

Laura Tomich finished 8 receiving blankets and 8 receiving blankets.

She also made 2 potholders, which were meant for our sale.  A friend saw them and offered to buy them for a gift, so they are already sold.

Pat Pipa made several ornament shaped potholders, 

some placemats, 

infant hats, 

and some embroidered towels.

Ceal Pedersen brough back some toys, now complete with faces.

Anne Knoff and Donna Rissman worked together on a bunch of play-time quilt mats. 

They also made some other items with fabric motifs they found in our stash.

Anne made a tote for her Christmas gifts.

Audrey Phillips’ daughter Vicky showed an autumn leaf sweater she made.

I showed 3 table runners I made from fabric I found in the donations, plus our 4.5” squares.

 

For the rest of the afternoon, the ladies emptied the boxes of sale items and sorted them into piles of like items.   We then inventoried the items and assigned prices.  The items were then put back into boxes, with like items together.   I will type off the inventories so we have a starting point for the October sales.  Mic and I put everything back in storage after the meeting, now organized.

Next week we will be back to our normal meeting.  I will let you know what I will bring .

Club Notes - August 21, 2024

We had a good turnout of 16 ladies today. I brought the 1 yd cuts, the bin of fat quarters and a box of small pieces from our donated fabrics.  I also brought the batting scraps, insulbright, and fusible fleece for today’s project.  When I wasn’t looking, a lady brought in 4-5 bags of fabric, including many finished and partially done items. We spent some time this afternoon sorting through this..

 Show and Tell: 

Laura Tomich came in and showed a table topper and some decorative mats for her daughter-in-law.

Ceal Pedersen showed a couple of stuffed toys that she painted the faces on.

Donna Rissman was given a challenge by a friend to do something with a bunch of men’s ties.  She turned them into a lovely quilt.

She also brought a delicious chocolate/oreo cake, shaped like a turtle, for us to enjoy.

B.J. Herter made 20 more snowball blocks 

and 9 dinosaurs, needing stuffing.

Diane Placek showed 2 pillowcases she made for her husband.

 (He wasn’t impressed with the fabric of the first one, even though it matched their bedroom, so she made the 2^nd one more “masculine”.)

I worked on a few small projects this week.  I made 4 tote bags using political blocks from donated fabric, 2 Republican and 2 Democrat.  

 There were 4 gingerbread house squares left over from a quilt I made a few years ago, so I turned them into hot pads.  

Lastly, I made 4 mug rugs using an Alice in Wonderland “drink me” motif.

Audrey Philips came in late and handed in a walker bag. I didn't get a picture .

Today I showed how to make “Hot Fingers”.  These are little potholders, that just fit on your fingers to grab a hot pot handle, or, with a set of 2, hold either side of a pot.  The instructions are attached.   I invited anyone who wished to make some to cut some fabric, Insul-bright, and batting or fusible fleece, to make some of these for our sale in October.

There will be no meeting next week.  El Santiago rec center will be closed so they can do some maintenance on the rest rooms.  I hope to see you in September.
