Club Notes - October 30th Halloween Party

We had lots of fun at our Halloween party this afternoon. 16 of us enjoyed lots of great food and fun games.  I challenged the group with 20 trivia questions about Autumn, and Suzzette won the prize with 14 right answers.  I also gave prizes to 2 ladies who got 12 right.  We also had some fun Halloween Bingo games to round out the afternoon.

Show and Tell:

Grasso showed an Eyor baby quilt she made for a soon-to be-born grandchild.

She also made a smaller floor- play time quilt for her.

Ceal Pedersen embellished some of the pocket purses that Audrey Phillips brought last week.

Lynn Delgado showed her Halloween bat purse

and her very first T-shirt quilt.

I am still deciding what next week’s agenda will be.  There are so few ladies bringing sewing machines, it doesn’t make sense for me to do demos. I might just keep bringing cut squares.   Let me know what you think.

Club Notes - October 23, 2024

There were 18 of us at today’s meeting.  I was very happy to see everyone.  Mary Kalow brought Carol Riggs so Carol could give away some of her sewing items she no longer needs.

Thanks again to B.J., Donna, Mic, and Sydna for helping at the 2 craft sales this month.  We netted $654 from the 2 sales.  That brought our total charity fund to $1116.  I gave some of the items to Mic for the Busy Hands sale at Colony in 2 weeks, so we may be able to sell a few more items.’

We talked about how we would distribute the charity funds this year.  I proposed that we give a larger amount to the Sherriff’s Youth Ranch this year, since they got hit by 2 hurricanes this year, and the ladies in attendance agreed.  Three of our other charities will also be supported, but with lower amounts than last year.  The distribution we agreed on was as follows:

$500 – Sheriff’s Youth Ranch

$100 – Project S.O.S.

$100 – The Marion County Humane Society

$100 – The Lake County Humane Society

I also let the group know about another donation.  Last Thursday the head of the QGOTV Charities sent an email saying that there was an opportunity to get quilts to the hurricane Helene survivors in North Carolina.  The catch was that the truck was leaving at 8AM on Saturday.  My husband and I went to storage on Friday, pulled 20 quilts and delivered them that afternoon.  We still have plenty of quilts to distribute locally and will work on that in a week or 2.

Show and Tell:

Ceal Pedersen brought back a bag of stuffed toys that she painted the eyes on.

Mary Ellen Boutin was back with a stack of 9-patch blocks and a tote.

Deb Chapman showed her progress on her quilt chapter block of the month challenge.  She has finished 9 blocks and is waiting for the patterns for the last 3.

Laura Tomich took fabric from our stash and came back with several lovely pillowcases.

Audrey Phillips has been working on projects for Operation Christmas Child. She showed some pocket purses she made and brought some that needed a little embellishment.  She offered for anyone interested in helping glue items on to finish some, for them to come and help.

**************

This afternoon I put out all the Christmas fabric we had and one Autumn bolt, to be used to make gift bags or anything else.  Almost all of it went.  I also put out the 5” squares and the box of big blocks.  I was happy to see some of that go as well.

Next week is our Halloween Pot-Luck.  Wear a costume (optional as always) and bring a dish to share.  I will supply the plates, plastic, etc., as well as the games.  BYOB and 25 pennies, buttons, or other items to mark your bingo cards.  Hope to see you next week.

Club Notes - October 16, 2024

There were 11 of us at today’s meeting.  It was good to get back and hear no one had any significant damage from Hurricane Milton.    I brought the bin of 1 yard and fat quarter pieces, as well as some very large fabrics (yards). Mic brought 2 bins of small pieces and 1 of large fabrics. Ann Knoff brought lots of scraps that needed to be sorted for dog beds.

Thanks to those who were able to volunteer to help next Saturday at Savannah.  The schedule looks like the following:

7:30AM-10AM  Sydna Eastman and B.J. Herter

10AM-1PM – Diane  Brunovsky

1PM-2:30PM Faye McCarrell, Donna & Marc Rissman

We have 2 tables for this one so we should be able to display things better. Please let your Villages friends and neighbors know about the sale 9AM-2PM at Savannah.  Villages IDs will be checked for entry.

Show and Tell:

Louise Stem showed sets of reusable menstrual pad kits she made for Operation Christmas Child.

Eileen DiSanto made a table runner for her neighbor.

Ellen Hein made a bunch of fleece blankets.

She also turned in receiving blankets, burp pads, and infant hats.

Finally, she finished the binding on a quilt I made:

During the meeting she worked on another quilt top:

Donna Rissman showed several aprons

and 2 table runners.

I showed some microwave potato bags,

neck lanyards

and wrist lanyards I made for our sale.

Most of the ladies spent the afternoon sorting through the scraps Anne brought in.  Near the end of the afternoon Mic and I looked through a box of Christmas fabric to see what might be useable.  There are several large pieces that would work great as gift bags.   We will talk about these next week and make this fabric available to anyone who would like to make some to use instead of wrapping paper this Christmas.

Club Notes - Oct 2, 2024

We had 12 ladies come out today.  Mic brought a bin of nice fabric and I brought the fiber fill.  We also put out the 3.5 inch squares for anyone to work with.

This Saturday (Oct 5th), is the Villages Craft Sale, 9AM-2PM.  I will be selling our club items in the Julio Iglesias room in the La Hacienda rec center. Proceeds from this will go to our charities. Several other of our members will also be selling their crafts.

Carolyn Grasso has a table at Rohan rec center and Brenda Severa has a table at Colony.  This multi-rec center craft sale is open to anyone, whether they live in the Villages or not, so tell your friends and come out to shop.

Show and Tell

Brenda Severa is back and ready to sell her crafts at every local craft sale in the area.  She has been sewing like crazy all summer and showed some of the table runners she made,

including 2 for our charity sale..

Anne Knoff showed a quilt top she made.

Donna Rissman showed a stuffed Candy Corn she made,  It came out a little lumpy 😉 , but she fixed it up during the meeting.

Diane Saculla showed a pair of moccasins that her friend made.  This friend makes them to order, custom fit to a person’s feet, and in any color.

The rest of the afternoon was spent sewing, cutting, stuffing, and chatting, as always.

I don’t have plans for next week yet.  I am just focusing on getting through the craft sale.  See you Saturday or next Wednesday.

Club Notes - September 25

There were 10 of us at today’s meeting, including 1 prospective new Villager.

I brought the fiber fill, Christmas fabric, and the bin of 1 yard and fat quarter pieces.

We got assigned a table at La Hacienda rec center for the Oct. 5th Craft Sale. The sale hours are 9AM-2PM.    I am now looking for 3 volunteers to help me at the sale.  I am only asking for 2 hour shifts, as follows:

8AM-10AM   setup and help with early shoppers

10AM-12:30PM   help with mid-day shoppers

12:30PM-2:30PM   help with afternoon shoppers and pack-up.

Please let me know if you can spare a few hours to help with this charity fundraiser.

Show and Tell:

Donna Rissman showed 2 Mommy-Baby Play mats.

She also showed a stuffed candy cord that we made a few years ago.  (I’m looking for it.)

Eileen DiSanto brought some bunnies, waiting to be stuffed.

Pat Pipa crocheted an infant hat,

made some jar opener pads

and another hanging kitchen towel.

Ceal Pedersen showed a quilt she made for a great-grandchild expected in October.

She also brought back a bunch of stuffed toys, now with faces.

Anne Knoff showed 2 table runners made by her friend Cindy.

I showed a baby quilt I finished.

For the rest of the afternoon ladies stuffed toys, selected fabric, and chatted.

We ended early today.  The skies looked like rain. I hope everyone is prepared for hurricane Helene’s arrival tonight.  I shouldn’t hit us directly, but it is big enough that we will probably get some very strong winds and possibly some tornados.  Please stay safe.  I hope to see you next week.
