Club Notes - June 21, 2023

The rain cooperated with us this afternoon, starting well after our meeting began and finishing before any of us were ready to leave.   Mic brought the large fabric bins and I brought some large squares batting scraps and insul-brite.

El Santiago Rec center will be closed for maintenance again June 28th, so we won’t have a meeting next week.

Show and Tell:

Diane Placek finished her purse from last week’s demo.

B.J. Herter made several dinos, which she stuffed during the meeting.

Bev Minnerly showed off bag of sewing items she got at Goodwill.

Louise Stem made some trivets, a set of microwave bowls, and a pillowcase.

Deb Chapman finished some potholders and trivets.

Ceal Pedersen painted faces on some stuffed toys that were handed in

and showed 2 quilts.

The 2nd quilt will go to quilts of valor.

Carolyn Grasso showed a quilt she made for her brother.

I showed three purses I made using last week’s pattern..

+++++++++++++++

After show and tell I demonstrated how to make the Noriko bag, from Lazy Girl.  I enlarged the pattern to make the bag a little larger and added a little to the instructions.

Our next meeting will be on July 5th.  I’m going to show a very simple pattern to make travel tissue cases.  If you need any specific supplies for other projects, let me know.

Hope to see you all in 2 weeks.

Club Notes - June 14, 2023

There were 10 of us this afternoon.  Mic brought the large fabric bins. I sorted through a boc of donated fabric that came in a few weeks ago, pulled out the small pieces, and brought the larger pieces for today’s project.  After everyone selected the fabric they want to work with, the remaining fabric was merged into the bins.

El Santiago Rec center will be closed for maintenance again June 28th, so we won’t have a meeting that week.  We will still meet next week – June 21st.

Show and Tell:

Mic Pickard finished some placemats that showed up in one of our donation piles partially done.

Deb Chapman made a patriotic hat

for the lion staue in her front yard.

Diane Placek made a bunch of hex coasters.

Eileen DiSanto made a bunch of hex trivets and a pillowcase.

Pat Pipa made 3 hex trivets.

Carol Riggs embroidered a towel for a friend’s first hole-in-one.

+++++++++++++++

After show and tell I showed my adaptation of the Runaround bag, which I’m calling the Fun Fat Quarter bag.  Everyone had fun selecting fabric and getting started making one of these.  In listening to everyone work, I found one more clarification I needed to add to the instruction, so I’m attaching what I hope will be a final version, complete with pictures.

Next week I am going to show another bag design.  This one is called the Noriko bag.  It only requires a  ½ yard for the outside and ½ yard for the lining, a button and some ribbon.  It does not require stabilizer or a zipper.  I plan to make one over the weekend to make sure it is as easy as it looks.

Club Notes - June 7, 2023

14 of us got together for this afternoon’s fun, including one new member.  I brought my Go-cutter  with the hexagon dies, along with the 10” and 5: squares. Everyone ha fun selecting squares to have cut into hexagons to make trivets and coaster.

 Show and tell:

Carolyn Grasso showed a bag she made.

Mic Pickard turned in a donated blanket,

 some wine totes,

some walker bags made by committee,

a set of mug rugs and a couple of stuffed toys

Ceal Pedersen took a panel from our stash and turned it into a great child’s quilt.

Louise Stem made a pillowcase and a set of microwave bowls.

Deb Chapman brought back her quilt top with the border added,

and also made some potholders.

New Member Patty Woodruff took some fabric during her first trial meeting a few weeks ago and made some trivets for our sale.

Diane Placek showed a prayer quilt she made for one of her church members.

Pat Pipa went after her ufo list and made a pillowcase and some mug rugs.

Audrey Phillips made a flamingo towel hanger for a friend.

She also brought in a bag full of embroidery projects she made over the years that are stand-alones.  She offered them to the group to turn into useful items such as bags or walker bag décor.

I showed 3 of my completed UFOs –

an alligator quilt I made to give to the manager of Silver Springs State Park,

and 2 quilts my husband requested.

The first is an eagle themed quilt

and the 2nd is a train theme.

One of the items that sold well at last year’s sale was simple purses.  Next week we will make some purses to sell, using a variation on the Lazy Girl purse pattern.  This is easy and quick. We will have some fabric sets and other fabric for you to choose your own sets.  You can cut the pieces at the meeting and, if you bring your sewing machine, can have one finished before the end of the meeting.

Hope to see you all next week.
