Club Notes - Dec 4, 2019

We had a great turnout this afternoon, including 2 new members!  This is good news for now, but I am watching out numbers to make sure we don't exceed capacity.

I am going to split this week's email into 2 parts, one for the charity update and the 2nd for regular show and tell and club info.  This blog post will contain both.

We started by talking about the Wildwood Soup Kitchen donation project.  As of today, 3 quilting chapters have joined our effort - Allamanda, Khaki, and Quilting B's.  Each chapter is contributing what we can.  I will send out an inventory update after next week.  There are 35 adults and 19 children staying in the 24 rooms they are subsidizing.
10 boys (1-2, 1-7, 1-9, 2-10, 2-11, 15, 17) 9 girls (1- 18 month, 1-5, 2-8, 1-10, 1-11, 13, 17, 1?)
11 dogs, 4 cats.

Here is a suggested list of what is needed:

Twin Size quilts (Min 55" x 72", Optimal 65" x 88"
(We have enough baby quilts.)
Pillowcases
Zip bags, totes, large drawstring bags/backpacks to use as suitcase substitutes

In addition to crafted items, donations of gently used clothes, personal care items (soap, shampoo, shaving items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, tampons, etc.) are appreciated.

We have stuffed toys to give to the kids 10 and under, but any ideas for the older kids such as games (Nothing that needs batteries) would be welcome.

I am also going to give them beds for the dogs and cats. Pet food is probably also appreciated.

Two ladies from Wildwood Organization will be coming to pick up the items we collect at our Dec 18th meeting. I've asked them to come between 2:30-3PM that day so we will have time to get the last of the items donated catalogued and organized.  I am also going to notify The Daily Sun, in case they want to cover this and give the Wildwood Soup Kitchen some press.

We had a full slate of Show & Tell this week:

Mic Pickard embroidered some towels and made candy bags for her grandkids, and placemats for herself.

Mic also brought 3 pillowcases made by Sue Campbell.

Pat Pipa made some zipper bags

Eileen DiSanto made 2 stuffed toys

Charlotte Cecilio donated a blanket and 2 more drawstring backpacks.

She also did another set of patriotic dryer sheet blocks and a placemat for her son.

Lu Karatzas made photo ornaments for her newest grandson and donated a quilt top.

Diane Placek showed a baby quilt for her newest family member.

Bev Minnery brought 3 pillowcases, an adult bib, and pajamas for a doll.

Kiki Mitracos made 2 small zippered couch pillow cases, some placemats, zipper bags, and 2 potholders.

Ellen Hein heeded the call for donations for Wildwood by finishing 29 fleece blankets!  She also made several sets of clothes for her grandchildren.

Carol Thurston made a kids quilt.

Linda Marshall embroidered 2 pillowcases

Carol Riggs made some pillows for her bedroom.

I showed a pillowcase and 4 quilts.

One quilt top was made by Carol Thurston and I just added the backing and quilting.

A green top and a pink top were designed from our box of 6" blocks by several members of our group.  I sewed them together and quilted them.

I designed the 4th one from a panel I found.

Today I showed the designs for 3 mug rugs and one place mat.  Two of the mug rugs could also be made larger to make matching placemats.
