Club Notes - April 17, 2019

After being away for 2 weeks, I was really excited to see what the club members have accomplished while I was away.  I feel so blessed to have my Sewing 'N More friends.  I gave you a challenge to show a little love to the 8 Sheriff's Youth Ranch 2019 graduates, and you have exceeded my expectations. 

I took inventory tonight and counted 6 completed twin size quilts, plus 2 twin quilt tops that I will finish. Plus Ellen and Anne have been working on duffle bags, with 6 complete and the last 2 well under way.  There are also several slightly smaller quilts and a stack of fleece blankets which we can give them for the new kids coming into the system.  We also have enough stack and wack blocks for 2 more quilts done, which we can take a little more time to assemble.  As an aside, I also found that we have enough red, white and blue dryer sheet blocks to make an honor flight quilt.  I also took home 15 dog beds and several walker bags!

Lu Karatzas made an announcement today about another charity opportunity.  The social workers' club that she belongs to is now meeting at a church in Wildwood.  This church has a program in which they collect gently used unwanted purses of any kind, fill them with personal hygiene items, and give them to women in need.  Lu said if anyone wants to donate their old purses to this cause, she will collect them over the next 2 weeks at our meetings, before she heads north for the summer.  

Show and Tell:

Bev Minnerly completed a walker bag, doll clothes (for Giving Dolls), and a dog bed.

Donna Rissman showed a duffle bag, table runner and dog beds.

Mic Pickard made some placemats for Busy Hands.

Lu Karatzas showed her completed 10 minute table runner and a finished fringe t-shirt.

Ellen Hein showed the duffle bags she made for the Sheriff's Ranch kids.

I showed 3 quilts I finished before I went away. 

One I made, one Lynn made the top,








and one top I found in the donations.

Donna Rissman gave a great demo on how to take any shape and make your own pattern with small fabric squares (she used 1 and 1.5"), gridded interfacing, and (if the interfacing is not fusible), glue sticks.  Once fused or glued to the interfacing, the seams are folded on the lines and sewn on the back, just like with the midi/mondo bags.

She also showed us 2 products she found. 

One is a spray for the back of our rulers to make them not slide. 






The other is a spray that makes a fabric patch stay in place temporarily.  She used this to confuse her grandkids, moving a patch on her shirt to different places on her clothing and waiting for them to react. 

I am looking for ideas for projects for future weeks, so please let me know if you have any ideas.   Next week I have scheduled for making pillow cases for our charities.  The following  week we will take a break for our Spring Pot Luck party.  After that we need some ideas.  If there is something you can demo or something you would like to learn, let me know.  Even if it's something we've done before that you'd like us to do again.  All ideas welcome.
