Club Notes - Nov. 1, 2017

This was a busy afternoon.  First, we had a reporter from the Daily Sun come out to talk to us.  She originally came to talk to us about the hurricane relief quilts we have been making.  (We currently have 17 and I have 1 more in progress.)  Once we began talking she expanded the article to include the Hospice Quilt effort that Kandie Stedman brought us and the pillowcases for the Sheriffs' Youth Camps.  Paul Farineau came to bring us 25 of the Hospice quilt center blocks, so she got to interview him too.

One of our newer club members, Lynn Kluczynski took the initiative to contact Skip Bryan about the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.  She is new to The Villages and had some bedding to donate.  After meeting with Mr. Bryan, she has volunteered to be our liaison to this group.  She will deliver pillowcases and anything else we make for these kids.  Lynn got some additional information about the group, which I have attached to this email.

So now you have 3 options for pillowcases:

Carol Riggs will take pillowcases for children that do not  have the extra trim and deliver them to Ryan's Case for Smiles.

Lynn Kluczynski will accept pillowcases made over the next few weeks, with or without the trim, and deliver them to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.

I will take any more adult pillowcases to the Ocala Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center.

Show and Tell

Nella Rose finished another quit for our donation effort.

Donna Rissman showed that you can use border fabric to enhance kitchen towels.  She also showed a great placemat and napkin idea, making it look like a present.

Joanne Sheahan brought in some pillowcases for the Youth Ranches.

Diana Gosselin made a pile of teddy bears for our stuffed toy Christmas donation.

Alice Meunier showed a beautiful Christmas tree wall hanging.

I showed a t-shirt I embroidered for Halloween.

We made great progress on the Hospice quilts this afternoon.  At the end of the afternoon, only 3 of the 26 center blocks we had were unclaimed.  That means I expect 23 Hospice quilts to be completed over the next 2 weeks.

In addition, at least half of the pillowcase fabric disappeared. I am looking forward to seeing all the completed pillowcases come back in.

Next week will be a continuation of today's charity efforts.  Hospice quilts, Pillowcases, toys, whatever you wish to work on.  It's all good to provide a little comfort and cheer to our neighbors who need it.
