Club Notes - February 16, 2022

We had 15 members and 3 guests at today's meeting.   Marie Bogdonoff, founder of Villagers for Veterans took time out of her busy schedule to talk to us about the organization and accept 6 quilts we are donating to Ashley's House. Last week I also delivered 30 dog beds and a couple of towels to the Marion County Humane Society.

In other news:  our friend Carol Riggs has returned to The Villages.  She is selling her house in Osceola Hills and moving to a house near the high school, so she will be returning to our fold once she is settled in.  She is having a garage sale this Thursday and Friday (2/17-2/18) and there will be fabric and other sewing items for sale.  The sale is from 8AM to 2PM both days and the address is 761 Beauclair Place.

The 9th annual Quilter's Closet and Notions Sale will be held at La Hacienda rec center on March 5th, 8:30AM - 12:30PM.  Mark your calendars.

****************************
After show and tell I gave a quick demo on making an easy placemat from 1.5 inch strips. The instructions for this are attached.

This afternoon I brought the 4.5 inch cut squares, the big block box, a bin of recently donated fabric, fiber fill, and batting scraps.  Thanks to everyone who helped sorting the donations and who selected fabric to take home to sew.

Next week will be another fabric square challenge week, no demo.  I haven't decided what size squares I will bring yet, so if you have any preferences, let me know.

Also, I only have activities scheduled through mid April, so if anyone has something they'd like to show or if you have something you'd like to learn, let me know.

For those who might be wondering why it takes a while for a quilt top to come back as a finished quilt, it's because you are all so wonderfully creative.  I currently have 21 quilt tops in some stage of completion - 3 that are quilted and need to go to Ellen for binding, 4 that are sandwiched but need edge-to edge quilting so they are waiting for my embroidery ,machine to get back from Sharky's, 14 more that need to be sandwiched and pinned. If all goes well I can usually quilt 3 a week.  I'm not in a rush because we also have at least 20 completed quilts in storage, mostly lap quilts.

Next meeting is March 2nd.  Hope to see you then.
