Club Notes - November 17, 2021

We had a great turnout this afternoon, 19 ladies including 1 guest.  We had a large fabric donation that came in yesterday and a number of ladies chipped in to sort and iron pieces.  They filled several dog beds with the smaller pieces, but there was so much this is a project to be continued.  Mic volunteered to take charge of the rest.

Show and Tell

Pat Pipa showed the purse she made from last week's demo.

Eileen DiSanto showed a few small card purses she made.  She will be doing a demo on this in the near future.

Ceal Pedersen showed the baby quilt that she started last week and is now finished.  She cut figures from a valance that was in a previous donation and applique'ed them to a quilt top.

Deb Chapman showed her latest block of the month,
the bag she finished last week,

and 2 hex trivets from a previous week's project.

Diane Placek showed the purse she made from last week's demo.

Bev Minnerly showed 2 purses she made from last week's demo and 2 zipper bags she finished with the same basic design.

Judy Mayer showed a quilt top she made

Mary Ellen Boutin showed the purse she made from last week's demo

and her first completed walker bag.

Ellen Hein showed 3 quilts she finished the binding on.

Ceal Pedersen made this quilt top.

Ellen took a panel and made this one.

(I liked the chance to use a African animal backing)

Pat Pipa made the top for the 3rd quilt.

(I added the backing and quilting on all of them.)

Ellen also turned in 2 more quilt tops using the parrot fabric she found.

She also made some clothing for her grandkids

and several drawstring bags for her grandson's magnetic construction toys.

Lastly, this busy sewer showed the purse she made from last week's demo.

Mic Pickard printed a design by her daughter on fabric and added it to a towel for her granddaughter.

She also made 2 embroidered zipper bags.

Audrey Phillips made several fabric cornucopias from our demo a few weeks ago.

She also showed several border fabric table runners she made, including her most recent one.

This last one did not have a recognizable repeat, so she had to buy a lot of fabric to complete it and Donna Rissman helped her with the layout.  It came out beautiful.

I showed the t-shirt I embroidered for Thanksgiving.  The front has a turkey, a gnome holding a pie, and says count your blessings,

I embroidered Happy Thanksgiving on the back.

I also showed two purses I made from last week's demo.

***********************************

For this afternoon's demo I brought in my Brother Dream Machine and explained how to approach an edge-to-edge embroidery quilting project.  I explained how to choose the right size design for your quilt and how to set it up in the hoop so the designs link across each row.  For the quilt I am working on, I choose a design that requires 6 rows of the design, each having 5 repeats across.  This covered all but about a half inch on either side and an inch at the top and bottom of the area I plan to quilt. During the meeting I finished the first 2 rows.
*****************************************
There is no meeting next week, since that is the day before Thanksgiving and most of us will be busy.  Our next meeting is December 1st.  I will send a reminder a few days before.

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Club Notes - November 10, 2021

We had 14 ladies at today's meeting.  Another possible new member stopped by to check us out and I saw Ceal and Judy telling her about our cub.  Hopefully she will come out for next week's meeting to join us.

I let everyone know that I gave 7 of the large quilt we had in storage to St Vincent de Paul's collection on Tuesday.  They had a note in the newspaper that they need blankets.

Deb Chapman gave today's demo of her favorite small purse and several of us took on the challenge..  I will send out the instructions in a separate email.

Show and Tell:

Eileen DiSanto made 2 stuffed cats and 4 little teddy bears.  (Ceal Pedersen did the faces on them.)

Pat Pipa took some squares from our started project box last week and made a quilt top.

Mic Pickard showed her latest Christmas gift quilt.  Last year she made pajamas for everyone in her family and this year she is using the leftover fabric to make quilts to match the PJ's.

Bev Minnerly showed a tote bag she made as a gift.

Judy Mayer used our project tote pattern to make a tote for her car.

Ceal Pedersen took some fabric out of the box of baby fabric I brought last week, cut the images out and appliqued them onto a quilt top.

Mary Ellen Boutin made a patriotic quilt top.

Ellen Hein showed some shirts she made for her grandson for Christmas.

I showed an alligator zipper bag I made on my embroidery machine.

Thanks to Carol Thurston and Mic Pickard for sorting through the latest box of donated fabric.  I came home with 3 dog beds from the scraps and a box of neatly ironed remnants that will go through my Go cutter easily.

I saw several ladies looking through the boxes of fabric I brought and I look forward to seeing what they make with it.

******************
Next week I will be giving a demonstration of how to use edge-to-edge embroidery patterns to quilt a small quilt.   You don't need any supplies for this, but if you are interested you may want to take notes of the process.  I will also bring the box of large fabric pieces.  We have stuffing, zippers, fabric for zipper bags, and 8.5" squares in the closet for anyone to work with.  If you would like anything else, email me.

Hope to see you next week.

Club Notes - Nov 3, 2021

We had a great turnout today - 18 of our members in attendance.  We welcomed Eileen DiSanto back after her successful knee surgery. SHe is doing great and glad to be back home.

Ann Knoff dropped off some fabric pre-cut for pillowcases that needed to be matched with cuffs or bodies.  (I think it was Carole Lamb who claimed this stack to match and finish.)

No announcements this week, so we went right into show and tell.

********************
Donna Rissman came with her usual bag of "stuff".  She finished a table runner that was started by a friend who passed away and made several pillowcases from some of our fabric stash.

She also showed a Turkey wall hanging and a Snowman panel made from 2 inch squares sewed on a grid.  (This may be a Dec 2022 project for us.)

Ceal Pedersen turned in another quilt top made from our fabric stash.

Liz Manzione showed some no-sew ornaments she made.

Carolyn Grasso found some fabric printed with Christmas wreaths, added backing and stuffing and turned them into stuffed fabric wreaths.

Carole Lamb finished a tied-edge flannel blanket and turned it in for donation.

Brenda Severa showed some more of the wall hangings she made for her father while he was in a nursing home.  These are from a series from a company called Patchability.

Charlotte Cecillio brought some finished stuffed toys and ore during the afternoon.

Ellen Hein finished the binding on 4 quilts I gave her last week.

Ceil Pedersen handed this one in (see Sept 22 post).

I designed this one in a meeting several weeks ago with color suggestions from a few other ladies, using all blocks in our donation stash.

Ellen made this one from a panel in our stash.

I designed this quilt top from our stash of 5 inch squares.

For our project of the week I showed how to make a fabric cornucopia. This is an easy project and I am attaching the template. I attached the instructions to my email, but note that this is for a small version.  The template I attached is larger but the process is the same.  You can also make it even larger if you want.  I did a version leaving the large end open for turning instead of the lining and finishing it with binding on the opening.  Your choice on how you want to finish it.

Today I brought a box of larger fabric pieces, a box of donations that we haven't looked through, some baby fabric, some lining fabric, walker bag kits, and a box of batting scraps for everyone to pick through.

Several ladies attempted the cornucopia while others worked on their own projects this afternoon.  Lots of fun activities.

Next week Deb Chapman will be demonstrating how to make a cross-body purse like the one she uses all the time.  This should be fun.   More info on this in a few days.
