Club Notes - November 4, 2020

We had 10 ladies attend this afternoon.  The rec center has resumed scanning ID's so they are slowly getting back to standard procedures.  However, tables are still being sanitized and masks are still required when we are within 6 ft of each other.

Last week I delivered 3 Halloween quilts, 3 pillowcases, 2 zipper bags, and 15 tote bags of various sizes to the Ocala Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center.

As of today we have completed 84 quilts since we started this effort in April.  We gave 10 quilts to the Sheriff's Youth Ranch in October to try to sell.  They posted 3 on EBay, but they did not sell.  EBay is a tough market, so I am not surprised. On another note, I saw an article in the Daily Sun that a local church sent Hurricane relief supplies to Louisiana.  The article referenced the Louisiana club here in The Villages, so I emailed them, asking if the people in Louisiana could use some quilts.  I received an answer this morning thanking our club.  They are going to check with their local contacts and see if quilts are needed.

We welcomed another new member today, Linda Rossel, originally from Brooklyn.  She came with hand sewing but quickly jumped into designing a quilt with our cut squares.

Show and Tell:

Eileen Di Santo came with 2 patriotic quilts - a Hospice quilt she is working on and an Honor Flight quilt she has finished.

Bev Minnerly made a drawstring backpack and a fidget walker bag this week.

New member Karen Komp put together a quilt top that she and Deb Chapman designed last week.

Ceal Pedersen wasn't felling well today, but she took the time to drop off a Hospice quilt top and another colorful charity quilt top that she completed this week.

Ellen Hein dropped off the latest 3 of our assembly line quilts.

Several ladies brought sewing machines and worked on various stuff. Bev and Deb attacked a big bag of fabric donations, filling half of a very large dog bed.  I pinned 3 quilts in prep for quilting and took Linda's design home to sew together.

I think we may have filled enough dog beds for me to make another delivery this week, but I'm not sure of my schedule yet.  I will let you know next week.

Have a great week and stay safe,
