Club Notes March 20, 2019

We made some great progress on the quilts for the Sheriff's Youth Ranch graduates today.  There have been 2 completed masculine quilts and 1 quilt top turned in, plus I know of several more in progress.  There were enough blocks completed in today's meeting for another quilt, and I plan to give Pat enough cut pieces to make 4 more sets for anyone who would like to try this at the next meeting. We also have 1 more feminine quilt to add to the mix.

Announcements:

- Busy Hands is have a fund raising sale on Monday, March 25th, 12:00 PM - 2:30 PM, at Coconut Cove Rec Center.  The proceeds benefit more than 40 area facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living , Boggy Creek, shelters, hospitals and homeless shelters.  Please stop by if you can.
- Nita Hand's knee surgeries were successful, but now she is dealing with heart issues.  She recently had a stent inserted to take care of a blockage and needs still another surgery in the near future.  It will be a little longer before she can join us.
-Donna Rissman is going to be teaching classes at the Sewing Studio.
-Lynn is teaching at the Quilting Pallet.

Show and Tell:

-Lynn turned in a quilt top  for the Sheriff's Ranch graduates

-Eileen DiSanto showed a mug holder and 2 pillowcases.

-Bev Minnerly finished her tunic from one of our meetings last year and several dog bed sleeves.

-Mic Pickard showed 2 tissue box covers she made from a kit she found at The Quilt Shop of Deland last week.

-Carol Thurston made a bunch of dryer sheet blocks and a couple of dog beds.

-Donna Rissman showed a table runner and a pillow.

-I found 2 more quilt tops in our donation piles and finished them. One is masculine so I'm counting it towards the Sheriff's Ranch quilts.

I also finished my fabric covered box and a special request fidget walker bag.

After show and tell I pulled out bags of pre-cut 10 inch squares.  The squares were of various fabrics found in our donation stash, which I separated by color families and grouped in sets of 5 squares.  I then showed everyone how to cut the squares, shuffle the pieces, and sew them back together to make crazy patch squares.  The ladies who brought machines started right away sewing the once I had prepared together.  I continued cutting more while other ladies ironed or squared of the completed blocks. As I said above, I hope to have the rest cut and shuffled so they can be sewn together during the next 2 meetings.

There is no meeting next week.  The next meeting is back in our regular room on April 3rd.  I will be away for the first 2 weeks in April, so Pat Pipa will be running the meeting.

Lu Karatzas will be giving a demo on April 3rd on how to make a fringe t-shirt.  All you need to bring is a t-shirt to try this on. Have lots of sewing fun.  See you in a few weeks.
