Club Notes - August 21, 2025

Thanks to Mic for running the meeting for me today. Between taking care of Ray and going for some of my own medical tests this week, my schedule has been very full and it was good to have one less thing on my calendar.

Here are Mic's notes:

There were 15 of us gathered in the cool of El Santiago Rec center.  As Lois was unable to join us while she is taking care of Ray full-time, Mic did the announcements and took pictures of all the Show and Tell.  Everyone took their show and tell home to return to Lois later for her counting process.  Mic will send the pictures to Lois for posting to the blog.

The tables were all busy with different projects:

·       Darlene suggested since she and Debbie had their sewing machines, they would make 9 patch blocks if everyone would help her pick out the squares.  They will share the blocks at the first meeting in September.

·       Several others sorted through all the boxes and bins of fabric from the closet and were able to condense them into 4 boxes and two bins!!!  Everything was re-labeled and stored on the shelves in the closet for easy retrieval at meetings.

·       The stuffing was brought out of the closet and a new batch of animals were ready to move to Ceal’s painting process.

Show and Tell:

Lenora Holze made a zipper bag.

Darlene Nudy made some 9-patch blocks.

Donna Rissman finished two more table runners.

She also showed some aprons

Eileen DiSanto came with several toys to be stuffed.

Ellen Hein brought a bunch of quilts that she finished the binding on.

This one was handed in by Diane Placek.

I believe these 2 were from Khaki Quilters.  (let me know if I'm wrong.)

Ellen made these 2.

The blocks for this one were made by Carol Riggs and sewn together by BJ Herter.  I added the border before quilting.

Ellen brought a few more quilt tops to be quilted.

Reminder: the rec center is closed next Wednesday so no meeting.  See you in September.

Club Notes - August 13, 2025

There were 16 of us today at El Santiago this afternoon, including 3 new members. Mic and I got another bin of very large fabric out of storage last week and much of it was quickly claimed.

I thought I was caught up on quilting all the small quilt tops that have been handed in, but got 3 more handed in today.  The 3 larger ones that have been waiting are still waiting to be sandwiched and pinned, and may have to wait for awhile.  As I mentioned to a few of you, my husband is currently in the hospital so I have to dedicate time to taking care of his needs.  I believe they will send him home soon, but I may have to make some accommodations in my house so he will be comfortable at home.  Sometimes LIFE just gets in the way. 😊

Show and Tell: (https://sewingn-more.blogspot.com/)

Mic Pickard showed a birthday gift she made for a friend – a mason jar silled with candy and decorated with things she made with her Cricket.

Ceal Pedersen showed the latest batch of stuffed toys

and a quilt.

Carolyn Grasso made a couple of 9-patch blocks with the 5” squares,

showed a T-shirt quilt she is making for her granddaughter.

Donna Rissman showed several of the triangle frenzy table runners she is working on for our sale.

She showed 3 different patterns that can be made with 60 degree triangles from border fabric.  Two of these runners have already been sold, ahead of our October sale.

Eileen DiSanto showed a dino toy she made.

New member Darlene Nudy found fabric in our bins last week and made 2 zipper bags.

Bev Minnerly a summer purse she finished.

Louise Stem turned in a pillowcase

and showed some of the reusable menstrual pads she is making for Operation Christmas Child.

Ellen Hein brought the latest batch of quilts that she completed the binding on,

plus a couple more quilt tops for me to quilt.

For the rest of the afternoon we each worked on whatever we wanted and chatted. Two of our new members had fun making some 9-patch squares using some of our 3.5 inch squares. Anne brought a bunch of scraps which went directly into dog beds.

I had to leave a little early so Mic closed up for me..

I just saw in my email that El Santiago is going to be closed for quarterly maintenance AGAIN on Aug 27, so there will be no meeting that week.

That’s all for now.  Hope to see you next week.

Club Notes - August 6, 2025

There were 13 of us today at El Santiago this afternoon, pus one prospective new member..  We had some fabric pieces added to the bin that I am now leaving at the rec center.  These are pieces that are too small for pillowcases but possibly large enough for stuffed toys.  If you find any in that bin that are too small for toys, bring them to me and I will put them with the fabric to be cut into squares.  I haven’t cut squares in a while because I have been trying to catch up on quilting all the quilt tops that have been handed in.  I gave Ellen a bunch more today.  Now I have 4 more small quilts pinned and ready for quilting, 2 small ones that I still need to find backing for, and then 3 larger ones that are waiting to be sandwiched and pinned.  No new ones came in today, so I might have a chance to catch up this week, and maybe even work on one of my own projects next week.

Show and Tell:

Mic Pickard showed a golf cart seat cover and steering wheel cover she made for Busy Hands’ sale.  She asked for suggestions and comments on how to improve on the pattern.

Donna Rissman showed the triangle frenzy table runner she is working on for our sale.  She is making several of these from the same fabric.  Eric, our friendly rec center staff person, saw it and bought one for his aunt.

Diane Sacula showed a mini-glove that can be sewn to a fidget walker bag,

and several key chains with embroidered embellishment.

She also showed 2 stuffed toys.

Ceal Pedersen showed 2 quilts she made, a zipper bag and the latest batch of stuffed toys.

B.J. Herter showed 5 dino’s she finished.

Ellen Hein brought the latest batch of quilts that she completed the

binding on.

Pat Pipa showed 2 tote bags she made for Busy Hands.

Bev Minnerly showed the triangle frenzy table runner she is working on.

I showed a set of 4 placemats that I made in an hour.

For the rest of the afternoon we each worked on whatever we wanted and chatted. Donna brought some delicious cinnamon rolls for us to snack on..  Mic and I went to storage after the meeting to put a couple of twin size quilts away until the fall, and to get some more of our very large fabric out.  You’ll see these next week.

That’s all for now.  Hope to see you next week.
