Club Notes - November 13, 2024

We had a great turnout today. There were 18 of us in attendance.  I brought the fiber fill and a group of ladies got busy stuffing the next batch of toys.  Mic brought the bin of Christmas fat quarters and a friend from Allamanda Quilters brought several boxes of fabric, batting and scraps.

Ceal Pedersen announced that she is having a garage sale this weekend.  Her address is

Last week we attempted to clear out our storage, delivering as much as possible now that the temperatures are dropping. I sorted the quilts and gave 2 bags to Mic to deliver, one to Project S.O.S. and the other to the Leesburg Hospital Maternity ward. I also gave her  bags of stuffed toys for the Villages Hospital Auxiliary.  Last Friday I gave 20 quilts to the Christian Care Center in Leesburg. The checks also went out to the Sheriffs Youth Ranch Hurricane Recovery fund, Project S.O.S., The Marian County Humane Society and the Lake County Humane Society.

Kathryn Jeter showed her completed project bag and an embroidery she made.

Pat Pipa took last week’s challenge and made a little girl’s purse and a zipper bag from the long trivets. 

She also made a thread catcher and a project bag.

Laura Tomich made a little draw string bag, aprons,

 pillowcases and little dog and cat tags for family pets.’

Suzette Katrishen showed her collection of sun hats.  She buys the basic hats and decorates them.

Mic Pickard took the long trivets and made travel jewelry cases.

Anne Knoff showed a monster charity quilt she made and a pillowcase. 

She also made an apron.

Louise Stem showed the reusable menstrual pad kids she finished this week.  She has completed 80 of these for Project Christmas Child.

Mary Ellen Boutin made 2 quilt tops.

Bev Minnerly made a zipper bag from one of the long trivets, and made 2 small Christmas Stockings for gifts to neighbors.

We will not have meetings for the next 2 weeks.  Next week the building is closed for quarterly maintenance.  The following week is Thanksgiving and we traditionally do not meet the day before. So our next meeting will be on December 4^th.  I will send out reminders.

Club Notes - November 6, 2024

There were 14 of us at today’s meeting.  I brought the 10” squares, some clear vunyl and lots of quilted fabric for today’s project.  I also pulled the big blocks out of the closet and Mic brought 3 bins of fabric for everyone to look through. 

 

Show and Tell:

In one of our donations we received a bunch of pretty 7” x 16” items we called long trivets for the sale.  Very few sold so Mic Pickard decided to find a way to use them.  She made a mason jar cozy, to dress up gifts of soup for neighbors.   She challenged the group to find other ways to use these.

and a charity quilt she made.

Ceal Pedersen showed a quilt she made from her husband’s shirts.

Diane Saculla took a Santa panel from our donations and made a quilt for a friend.

 

Today’s demo was on how to make a project organizer bag.  Since this has a clear front you can put the pattern in front so you can see what the project in the bag is.  I have several of these for my UFO’s and planned projects, and can always use a few more.  I actually made 1 during the meeting and started another one.  I saw several ladies cut fabric and vinyl to make one.

 

After the meeting Mic and I went to storage.  We put away the party supplies from last week and pulled most of the quilts out. We left a few of the largest to save them for the Sheriffs' Youth Ranch grads.  Mic took the no-batting quilts to give to Project S.O.S. and I took the rest home with me.  I will record the measurements of the ones I took, put some aside for Leesburg Maternity ward, and give the rest to the Christian Care Center in Leesburg. 

When we were in storage we found a large bag of Christmas fabric, mostly fat quarters.  Mic will bring these to next week’s meeting for anyone to use.  You can make something for charity or for yourself.   I will bring a pattern for a Christmas stocking.
